Summary


This branch is mainly for careers in financial establishments that require the mastery of applied mathematics, finance and computing for the design or development of new utilities or services. The skills acquired are also useful for those involved in information system architecture in banks and financial institutions.

Objectives


The objective for students enrolled in this specialization, in addition to training as a mathematician and computer scientist, is to develop an ability for modeling and formalizing financial situations. This requires familiarity with financial markets and products as well as an understanding of financial mechanisms.

Two sub-branches are proposed to students. These two sub-branches share a major common core offering a strongly integrated, high-level curriculum in computer science, mathematics, and finance. Besides this common core, the sub-branches offer students different levels of emphasis on the computing or mathematical aspects.

  • The curriculum of Advanced Quantitative Methods (MéQA) shows a higher emphasis on the mathematics-for-finance aspects; it offers high-level skills in financial mathematics, computational finance and numerical programming.
  • The curriculum of Information Technology and Financial Mathematics(I2MF) shows a higher emphasis on the computing and finance aspects; it offers high-level skills in computer science, finance, computational finance and numerical programming.
 

Specificities


The second year of this graduate specialization automatically leads to a double degree: an Engineering Degree from Grenoble INP-Ensimag and a Master’s Degree in Quantitative Finance from Grenoble IAE. The students must therefore complete a 60 ECTS credit curriculum of courses during the year.

Entry requirements


To be admitted into Year 1 (at two years of post-secondary study), students must have completed two years of preparatory courses (science-track or Institute of Technology common preparatory program) or have earned an undergraduate degree from a university (in France, mainly DUT or L2).

Admission into Year 2 is also open to foreign candidates holding a bachelor's degree. This course leads to the French degree Diplôme d'Ingénieur Grenoble INP - Ensimag (Master of Science in Engineering).
Admission is also open to exchange and double-degree students coming from Ensimag's partner universities.

The final year of this graduate specialization is also open to students admitted to the Master in Quantitative Finance at Grenoble IAE (Business School from the Université Grenoble Alpes). These students obtain both the Master in Quantitative Finance from Grenoble IAE and a Certificate in Financial Engineering from Grenoble INP-Ensimag.

Semester 10 is spent entirely on the Graduation Project and associated internship.

The End of Studies Project
The second semester of the final year of studies is dedicated to this project (30 ECTS credits), which can be performed either in a research laboratory or in industry.Through this final project, the student, as a full-time member of a working team, is able to synthesize the knowledge he or she has acquired and put it into practice in a professional context. The student is involved in a full-scale project. The results are presented in a project report to a committee made up of professionals and Ensimag Faculty members.

Board of examiners

Each semester is worth 30 ECTS credits, spread out over the different courses completed. Students must obtain a grade of at least 10/20 in each course to obtain the credits.
