This graduate specialization is open to Grenoble INP-Ensimag students after their final year of bachelor studies. Admission as regular students of the two-year curriculum is also open to foreign candidates holding a bachelor's degree. This course leads to the French degree Diplôme d'Ingénieur Grenoble INP - Ensimag (Master of Science in Engineering). Admission is also open to exchange and double-degree students coming from Ensimag's partner universities.
The Financial Engineering branch offers three options:
Mathematical Finance (MathFi)
Financial Mathematics and Computing (MIF)
Financial Informatics (SIF)
Overview and career opportunities
This branch is mainly for careers in financial establishments which require mastery of applied mathematics, finance and computing for the purposes of design or the development of new utilities or services. It is also useful for those involved in information system architecture in banks and financial institutions. It offers three options with different levels of emphasis on the mathematical or computing aspects:
Mathematical Finance concerns research and development of market finances. Skills: Construction of financial models, mathematical analysis, development of utilities and numerical methods.
Financial Mathematics and Computing concerns the application and development of computer utilities for financial calculations. Skills: Computing and calculation coding, numerical methods, finance, accountancy, management.
Financial Informatics concerns computer systems in banks and financial institutions and the creation of information systems. Skills: Computing and general financial knowledge, accountancy, management.
The objective, in addition to training as a mathematician and computer engineer, is to develop a particularly facility for modeling and formalization of financial situations. This requires familiarity with markets and financial products as well as an understanding of financial mechanisms. This branch automatically leads to a double degree (engineering degree and Master).
Courses taught in English
Each year a few courses may be offered in English. Information on such courses will be updated on our website. Generally, courses are taught in French, occasionally with slides in English. French language competence is required.
Internship and project in a financial company
The End of Studies Project
The second semester of the final year of studies is dedicated to this project (30 ECTS credits), which can be performed either in a research laboratory or in industry.
Through this final project, the student, as a full-time member of a working team, is able to synthesize the knowledge he or she has acquired and put it into practice in a professional context. The student is involved in a full-scale project. The results are presented in a project report to a committee made up of professionals and Ensimag Faculty members.
