Goal(s)

This course aims to provide students with:

  • a general background in post-genome biology, with a focus on bioinformatics;
  • practical knowledge of the Perl programming language, which will be acquired through applications in bioinformatics.

Content(s)

  • Background in post-genome biology.
  • Introduction to bioinformatics, selected classics.
  • Presentation (and how to make use) of the major sources of biological data: proteins (Uniprot), biomolecular interactions (Intact etc...), functional annotation (Gene Ontology),...
  • Perl [for bioinformatics].
  • Using a "Biology-Oriented" OODBMS (acedb).
  • Analysing biological networks.
