Goals

This course gives insight description of techniques and protocols used by operators in their networks to give access to the core network, to switch informations, to carry data, to supervise their networks and to propose new services. Signaling techniques are also presented and SIP protocol is detailed.

Introduction : access and core networks, role of operators

Architecture and protocols :
for the core network

  • Plain Old Telephone Service, PDH and SS7
  • Optical transport network : basic components of optical fibre systems, WDM technology, capacity enhancement (100 Gb/s),transparency and agility (GMPLS)
  • SDH
  • ATM
  • High speed Ethernet
  • Mobile core network

for the access :

  • ADSL
  • FTTH

Building blocks for services :

  • SIP : principles, protocols
  • IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem
  • Support : OSS, BSS

+ 1 lab on SIP-phone configuration and VoIP



Prerequisites

1st year course on networks

Tests

Written exam (3 h) (E).
