Ensimag Rubrique International 2022

In-coming students - Practical information

Application

Applications and information requests are processed by Ensimag's international relations office.
A specific application form for exchange and double-degree students is to be filled and sent back to Grenoble Institute of Technology international relations office by June 1st for the autumn semester and by November 15 for the spring semester.
For a project, students have to send their application form two months before their arrival.
Incomplete or late applications forms will not be considered.
A specific jury meets on mid-June and mid-November in order to screen the application forms received. After this jury, students are informed on the status of their application, and if they are accepted, they receive an acceptance letter as well as practical information on Ensimag and on their arrival in Grenoble.

Language

The courses are given in French; thus students must have a minimum level in French language upon arrival in order to be able to follow the courses and take the examinations.
  • Students can register for an intensive French course during the summer preceding the beginning of the academic year, in the University Center of French Studies (CUEF- Université Stendhal). CUEF proposes intensive sessions (20 hours per week) or semi intensive (10 hours per week) during July or August, and also during the academic year.
These courses are to be paid for by the students (but they can benefit from a 20% reduction).
  • Grenoble Institute of Technology also organizes French courses, paid by the schools, which the students must follow if they have difficulties in French. A one-week crash course is generally organized during the last week of August. Then they have 2 hours per week during the academic year (registration is done through the Grenoble Institute of Technology application form).
Students who are on a double-degree program must follow the French courses, whatever their level, and take a certification test in French language (Test de Connaissance du Français - TCF or DELF/DALF) during their stay at the school. The TCF is paid by Ensimag.

Academic calendar

Our academic years are divided into two semesters, from September till end of January, and from early February till June.
Double degree students have to register to a session stage admis sur titre (designed specifically for students who have not attended the first year at Ensimag), which is held during two weeks before the beginning of the academic year.
The third year (equivalent to fifth year - graduate studies) is composed of one semester of courses and of one semester dedicated to the final study project (Projet de Fin d'Etudes - PFE), which lasts 5/6 months.

University holidays:
Fall break (1 week), Christmas (2 weeks), February (1 week), Easter break (1 week).

Courses

The yearly workload for a regular student is composed of 60 ECTS of courses. Regular students and double-degree students must conform to this structure. Exchange students can register to less than 60 ECTS; they are allowed to register to the number of courses they wish (in agreement with their home institution).
The registration to courses is done at the beginning of each semester, though the intranet.

Students have to choose their courses in agreement with their home university. Preferably these courses are to be chosen in a single year of study (either 1st, 2nd or 3rd year - equivalent to 3rd, 4th and 5th years at university level) in order to avoid timetable conflicts, and for a better integration in the class. Some complementary courses can be chosen in another study year, but all courses must be compatible; and students must meet the required prerequisites.
The individual study plan of each student must be validated by the professor in charge of international relations upon arrival at Ensimag, and if necessary by his tutor in the home university.
The student will then have to respect this learning agreement, and commit himself not to change his program.

Each course will end with an exam; all the exams are taking place at the end of the semester (during one week dedicated to exams). At the end of the academic year, the student will receive a transcript of records with his grades (scale: on /20) and the ECTS grades corresponding, so that his home university can transfer the credits.
