The HANABi project is being implemented by the SIMAP* and LGP2** laboratoires. The goal is to combine the advantages of paper and ceramics in order to keep the best of both worlds and create an alternative to plastic packaging.
The UNITE! community has started a collaborative process in order to put in place a virtual Metacampus UNITE!. This is a challenging process that has to lead to early results in the medium term. The decision of the Alliance to start designing a common digital platform, is a turning point, and at the same time a challenge and an exciting starting path on which the community has enthusiastically engaged, as the need of such a tool is viewed as a key need for the visibility and growing of the concept of a European university.
The Academie des Sciences was missing from his collection of awards… But no longer! After the MIT Technology Review Innovators and the Innovative Environment Techniques prize in 2013, an IUF nomination in 2015, the Léon Brillouin SEE/IEEE prize in 2016, the prestigious ERC recognition in 2018, and finally, the International MTT-S Outstanding Young Engineer Award in 2019, Etienne Perret just received the IMT Espoir Prize from the Academie des Sciences. Etienne is currently an associate professor at Grenoble INP-Esisar, UGA, and head of the ORSYS team at the System Design and Integration lab (Grenoble INP/UGA).

One year ago, UNITE! was selected as one of the 17 European University Alliances to pilot an entirely new concept of the European Commission towards the European Education Area of the future. Born as an Erasmus+ project, and later receiving additional funding by the H2020 framework programme, these pilot projects are laying the foundations of a solid structure that will enable the full potential of UNITE! as a European University Alliance.
The MIAI Institute offers short teaching cycles in which courses, coordinated by MIAI, are given over a limited period of time, specifically aimed at people from the socio-economic world. Transversal to existing accredited degrees, these IA courses are open to candidates of all disciplines.
The GIANT International Internship Programme (GIIP) facilitates internships for non-European students in the summer (May-July; 3 months) and or autumn (September-December) in labs located on the GIANT innovation campus. Following a 20 month break to upgrade its systems, the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) was rebooted on Tuesday, August 25. With performances 100 times higher than the old system, the ESRF is now the world’s most powerful x-ray source. And what will this powerful x-ray source be used for? Following Catherine Picart’s award, it is Guillaume Balarac’s turn to be recognized by the Academy of Sciences. The researcher recently received the Espoir Institut Mines Telecom prize from the Academy of Sciences, which rewards a scientist under the age of 40 for a major innovation that supports a sustainable economy in business or industry.
After receiving a CNRS medal in 2016, Catherine Picart was rewarded by the Academy of Sciences for her research work. Catherine Picart is a professor at Grenoble INP - Phelma and a researcher at LMGP (UMR-CNRS, Grenoble INP). As of September 1st, she has been on provisional assignment as head of the IRIG Health Department (Institute for Interdisciplinary Research in Grenoble). Catherine Picart is an internationally recognized expert on biomaterials, bioactive surfaces and their applications.

The "MIAI Grenoble Alpes" project to host an interdisciplinary artificial intelligence institute (3IA) was approved on Wednesday 24th April by the French State with a budget of 18.5 million Euros per year over 4 years.
On December 6th 2018, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) announced the winner of a pan-European competition on the Added Value Manufacturing call: “EIT Manufacturing”. Knowledge and Innovation Community “EIT Manufacturing” is the third EIT in which Grenoble INP is involved as a core partner, after EIT InnoEnergy selected in 2010 and EIT Raw Materials in 2014.
The Grenoble University Space Center (CSUG) organizes a scientific and industrial workshop during the Grenoble NewSpace Week from Tuesday 14 until Friday 17 May 2019. Eleven students from Esisar in the bus on October, 13th, ready for a trip to Lyon. The aim? Getting to Place Bellecour for the International Welcome Day organized by the Agera (Alliance des Grandes Ecoles in the Rhône-Alpes), as every year since 2000.
Once again, Grenoble was ranked as the best French city for university studies ahead of Rennes and Toulouse (the last time was in 2013). As explained by the magazine L’Etudiant when the ranking was published on September 7th: “The capital of the Dauphiné region has everything needed to attract students. It’s not surprising the city has been in the top three of our ranking for the past ten years!”

A nice double win for the Professor, specialist in bio-based nanocomposites, rewarded by a prize of the TAPPI and ranked in the 300 most cited researchers in the field of Materials Science & Engineering in 2016.

Elsa Walger, LGP2's Ph.D. student, defended her Ph.D. thesis: "Study of the activation of hydrogen peroxide by the copper(II)-phenanthroline complex for the color-stripping of recovered cellulosic fibers".
The LGP2 recently became an associate member of the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC), an association founded in Brussels in 2012 to represent the private sector within the Bio-Based Industries (BBI) public-private partnership.
Thanks to the support of the Tec21 "Laboratory of Excellence", the LGP2 was able to play host to two North American professors with expertise in nanocellulose materials: Emily Cranston (24 May-26 June 2016) and E. Johan Foster (1 June-1 July 2016).
On June 14th, Times Higher Education World University Rankings and Reuters, published its first Top 100: Europe's Most Innovative Universities ranking. Two universities in the Grenoble ecosystem were ranked among the top 50 most innovative European universities. The Grenoble Alpes University was ranked 35 and Grenoble Institute of Technology ranked 39.

Professor at Grenoble INP-Pagora, he has been appointed as Director of the Laboratory of Pulp and Paper Science and Graphic Arts. He replaces Evelyne Mauret, who resumes her teaching and research role, having headed the laboratory for the last five years.

The international QS World University Rankings by Faculty® - Engineering & Technology 2015/2016 has been published. Grenoble INP, 199th in the world ranking with a score of 68.1 points, comes in 4th place for France, behind Ecole polytechnique (81st with 76.3 points), Centrale Paris (153rd with 70.8 points) and Pierre and Marie Curie University (186th with 69.1 points). The UJF comes in the 5th position with 66 points and comes 228th in the world ranking, followed by Mines ParisTech and INSA of Lyon.

To limit the increase in paper production costs, one approach is to reduce the amount of fibers and increase the proportion of inorganic fillers. However, the problem is to maintain the mechanical properties of products with a reduced number of bonds between fibers.

On 23 March 2015, the Confluences Institute awarded a 2015 Industry Prize to Grenoble-based firm ISORG. This rewards the creation, in conjunction with Grenoble INP-Pagora, of a "Printed Electronics" course geared towards meeting the needs of an emerging job-creating sector, one that has seen the graphic and electronics industries converge.
The conference will include 22 parallel symposia, one plenary session, one exhibition and much more. The Symposium G will cover both transparent, electrically conductive materials (TCM) based on traditional conductive oxides such as ITO, AZO or FTO and emerging TCMs based on graphene, carbon nanotubes, metallic nanowire networks, metallic grids, and composites.
Between 2010 and 2014, the Laboratory of Pulp and Paper Science and Graphic Arts (LGP2), represented by Julien Bras, Associate Professor at Grenoble INP-Pagora, played an active role in the European programme for scientific and technological cooperation (COST FP1003) in the field of biobased packaging: BioMatPack. G-SCOP is a multidisciplinary laboratory which has been created to meet the scientific challenges imposed by the ongoing changes within the industrial world. The new Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) installed at the Common Technological Resources Consortium (CMTC), was inaugurated on Monday 19 January in the presence of Yves Bréchet, Director of the Laboratory of Excellence, CEMAM, and its supervisory authorities.There were about 150 people in the Besson amphitheatre of the Phelma Campus to have answered the invitation of CEMAM’s director to inaugurate the brand new TEM-FEG. This item of equipment was purchased by the Labex CEMAM* in partnership with the Observatoire des Sciences de l’Univers de Grenoble (OSUG), the Institut Carnot Energie du Futur and the company NanoMEGAS, specialised in scientific instrumentation. “The TEM is everything but a dead piece of equipment,” emphasised Yves Bréchet in his opening speech. “On the contrary, it’s an instrument that’s used to build tools that allow us to control materials.” Given that the CEMAM’s role is to design, produce and characterise “hybrid materials” in which it is necessary to master the microstructures

Clément Jany, a young doctor who did his PhD in Optics and Radiofrequencies (OR) at Minatec, CEA Leti, under the supervision of Philippe Ferrari from the IMEP-LAHC laboratory, won the award for the best article during the European Microwawe week that was held in Rome (Italy) from 5 to 10 October and which brought together approximately 1,400 attendees from across the globe. From October 29th to 31st 2014, the International Pulp Bleaching Conference (IPBC) will be organized in Grenoble. This is the only global conference reporting on the latest technological and scientific advances in the bleaching of kraft, sulphite pulp and chemical and textile uses.

The Centre Asiatique de Recherche sur l’Eau (Asian centre for water research) was inaugurated on 19 November 2013 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, at the second conference of the RESCIF presidents. The Network of Excellence in Engineering Sciences of the French-speaking Community (RESCIF) was created in 2010 and implements innovative targeted and long-lasting cooperation between 14 technological universities with the goal of addressing some of the major challenges of emerging and developing countries.

Within the framework of the Samuel de Champlain Franco-Canadian program, researchers from the LGP2, laboratory located in Grenoble INP-Pagora, and from FPInnovations, a private Canadian research center, are uniting their efforts to study the compatibilization of nano-crystalline cellulose. This collaboration aims to develop new applications in preparation for production at an industrial scale.
Grenoble INP-Pagora will be present at the 2010 Packaging Exhibition from November 22nd – 25th, 2010 in Paris Nord Villepinte, and will present its post-master "Biorefinery: bioenergy, bioproducts & biomaterials".
