Goal(s)

This course covers the operation of DBMSs in order to fully understand their characteristics and to be able to use them effeciently.

Responsible(s)

Christophe BOBINEAU

Content(s)

The relational model is very widespread and offers good performance if the physical schema is well configured (this is the job of the DBMS administrator), but scaling proves difficult. We will study the internal structures of DBMSs to understand how to improve efficiency: data storage/access media, accelerating structures/indexes, query evaluation and optimization algorithms, and transaction management mechanisms.
The Object extensions of the Relational Model will also be developed here.

  • Storage/Indexing
  • Triggers and Stored Procedures
  • Query Evaluation/Optimization
  • Oracle and MySQL Practical Exercises
  • Transaction Operations
  • Caching
  • Project
