Goal(s)

During the course, students will build upon and deepen the concepts discussed during the course of the introduction to cybersecurity. The goal of the security engineering course is to explore subjects related to cybersecurity using practical approaches, for example, securing and attacking vulnerable infrastructures, reverse-engineering of malicious software, or programming encrypted communication between hosts.

  • Exploiting and securing vulnerable systems
  • Development of proxy and a reverse proxy and encrypted communication (python)
  • Analysis of logs from honeypots (ipython, statistical analysis)
  • Analysis of real-world web infections (analysis of pcap files)
  • Building a sandbox for malware analysis with virtual machine and INetSIM; malware analysis
  • Open-source intelligence (OSINT): data collection of vulnerabilities on selected targets using only publicly available sources (no active scans)
  • Security of Domain Name System, domain hijacking, securing DNS protocol with DNSSEC, deployment of Web certificates
