This course gives insight description of techniques and protocols used by operators in their networks to give access to the core network, to switch informations, to carry data..

Content

Introduction : access and core networks, role of operators
Optical tranport and access network :

  • Basic components of optical fibre systems, WDM technology, optical amplification
  • Capacity enhancement (100 Gb/s),transparency and agility (GMPLS)

Protocols :

  • SDH
  • HDLC
  • High speed Ethernet

+ 1 lab on serial link and 1 lab on optical fiber systems

Prerequisites

1st year course on networks

Tests

Written exam (3 h) (E).

N1=1/4(3*E1+TP)
N2=E2
