Goals

Review and analyse the principles and standards of terrestrial and space wireless networks.
This course
- presents mobility related issues in general.
- by describes the solutions which standard organisations and industry have provided so far, in both the LAN and telecom domains.
- Exhibits new challenges and future technologies

Main characteristics of the wireless data transmissions
Mobility and LANs (IEEE 802.11 family, Bluetooth, WiMAX)
Cellular telecommunication networks (GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA)
New challenges and new standards.
Satellite communications.



Prerequisites

The OSI layered model for networks.
Basics on the Internet protocols (IP, TCP, UDP).
Basics on antennas and propagation
Background knowledge on large telecommunication network

Tests

The exam is given in english only 

Give kind of exam for session 1 and session 2: written, allowed documents or not, oral, practical work, reports, plan, vivas
