Goal(s)

The goal of this course is to cover the foundations of visual computing: the representation of 3D objects, rendering, and computer vision.
The module will be divided into three parts, linked together by a continuous practical sessions.
The first part will focus on the question of rendering and its challenges:

Representing a 3D scene
Displaying 3D objects on screen efficiently
Computing the interaction between light and an object.

The second part will be dedicated to the creation and manipulation of geometries (including 3D meshes):

Introduction to different geometry representations
Extracting a point cloud from an image
Reconstructing a mesh from a point cloud
Smoothing and simplification of a mesh

The third part will be dedicated to extracting data from images:

Image representation
Filtering
Camera calibration
Projecting a point cloud onto an image
