Natural Language Processing is a field at the crossroads of linguistics, computer science and artificial intelligence, which aims to give machines the ability to process natural language for applications as diverse as information retrieval on the web, text mining, machine translation and dialogue. Recent advances in machine learning have brought this field to the forefront, and it is now crucial for many companies to master the technologies derived from it. In this course, students will be introduced to the field of NLP, its main issues, approaches and evaluation methods. We will detail some of the expert and machine-learning approaches that are at the heart of certain TALN applications and tasks. Finally, students will acquire basic skills to build TALN systems for some of the major problems of financial TALN: language modeling, text classification, semantics/sentiment analysis through practical work on financial data (when available).
