Principles of Internet - WMMRPDI

Goal(s)

• acquire basic knowledge of networks and communication systems
• understand the design of IP networks and the Internet
• study the principles of operator networks and network interconnection

Content(s)

This lecture will focus on the TCP/IP protocol stack. After an introductory presentation of the main concepts, we will study:

• physical layer: data transmission;
• data link layer: local area networks, error protection ;
• network layer: IP and routing protocols;
• transport layer: TCP, the socket API.

Network lab:

• Setting up a network;
• TCP/UDP ;
• NAT, firewall.
