Goal(s)
The course introduces concepts of business process modeling using the Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) industry standard language. Methods and tools to describe, analyze (from a formal perspective) and improve business processes are presented. The course also introduces the so-called Process Mining, which is considered to be an advanced Data Science.

Content(s)
This course introduces concepts on business process management. In order to model processes, this course rely on Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) industry standard. Students will learn:
1. Process Modelling (12h30)
- Introduction to Business Process Management (BPM)
- Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN)
- Process perspectives (collaborations and choreographies)
- BPM life-cycle
2. Process Mining (9h)
- Motivations & positioning of process mining
- Types of process mining (discovery, conformance & enhancement)
- Process mining methods & tools
3. Process Analysis (10h30)
- Formal models
- Functional and quantitative analysis
- Resource allocation
- Process comparison and evolution
A 3h discussion on process engineering research papers is also considered.
Students will be evaluated on their capacity of analysis and modeling of process models, their theoretical background and their practical application using a Business Process Management System.
